5 Reasons Blogs Are Beneficial For Your Business

With the rise of platforms like TikTok, many people have diverted their attention from a traditional website with a blog and spilled all of their energy into the new trendy things that hit the market every single day.

And honestly, I can see why. Platforms like TikTok are easy and give instant gratification that a website with a blog just doesn’t.

If you’re newer to the entrepreneur world and you need clients in order to pay your bills, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, so haphazardly setting up a LinkTree and posting 3 times a day with the hope of going viral can be a whole lot more appealing than creating a website with a blog that requires a little more thinking.

And if you’ve been in the business game for awhile now, there’s a chance you finally have the traction that you worked so hard for, so it can be difficult to slow down, take a step back and really do the thing that seems unimportant in the moment.

So, from both sides, I really do understand. The problem is, when you don’t take time to invest in the longevity of your business beyond the 15 seconds of an Instagram story or a 30 second TikTok trend that will die off tomorrow, you take the risk of losing out on business down the road.

The fact of the matter is that, no matter how great your social media content is, it has an extremely short shelf life.

The Shelf Life Of Your Social Media Posts

In fact, some say that your content on the most popular platforms that almost everyone uses on a daily basis - we’re talking Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok - have a shelf life of only 48 hours 😳

(Of course, some posts will go viral and circulate the Internet for weeks or even months, but that certainly isn’t the norm.)

So essentially, after you film a TikTok that required 10 takes, edit it so it’s perfect for the FYP and then spend another 30 minutes making sure the words pop up at the right time and finallyyyyy post it, the chance that people will see it after 2 days is very slim. 🙃

And I don’t know about you, but at the risk of sounding a little dramatic, that statistic is quite depressing.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t post on social media at all. It’s an incredibly important tool that shows off your credibility and can absolutely be an asset in your business.

All I’m saying is don’t put all of your eggs into that basket and instead invest more of your time and energy into content that can serve you AND your potential clients for way longer than 48 hours.

My favorite way to do this? BLOG CONTENT ✨

5 Reasons Blogs Are Beneficial For Your Business

1. Blogs Have an Astronomically Longer Shelf Life Than Social Media

Now that you know the startling statistic about the shelf life of your social media posts, let’s look into some numbers that are a bit more uplifting when it comes to your blog content.

When done correctly and strategically, studies have shown that blog posts can last up to TWO YEARS with some even exceeding that.

Because of this potential for a longer shelf life, it’s important that your blog content is created with an evergreen mindset, meaning its content that doesn’t necessarily have an expiration date.

For example, if a person lands on a blog post that you wrote a year ago, you want them to receive the same amount of value that the person who read it the day you posted it received as well.

To help you capitalize on this potential, I as a blog writer for business owners, assist clients in developing a strategic and customized blog plan that allows for evergreen creation and the ability to use the blog content for repurposing on other platforms.

Which brings me to the second reason that a blog is beneficial for your business…

2. Blogs Can Serve as a Starting Point and Repurposing Tool for the Rest of Your Content

Have you ever sat down to post on Instagram and hit a roadblock because you aren’t exactly sure what you should be posting? If you’re like any other business owner out there, I’m sure you know the feeling 😅

This roadblock often leads to panic posting because you feel so pressured to get something out there and start to believe that something is better than nothing.

As a business owner, you have TONS of value to share, so that’s likely not the problem. The problem is that you may not know how to structure and share it in a way that your audience actually benefits from it.

The exciting news for you is that a blog is the perfect place for that to happen! You see, blog posts are naturally longer form content, so one post has the ability to turn into 3-5 social media posts for you.

The real value is that you can confidently show up on TikTok, Instagram or whichever social media platform you prefer with a solid plan WITHOUT reinventing the wheel when you invest in your blog content first.

3. Blogs Serve as a Home Base For ALL of Your Content

Not only can you repurpose your blog content to use for social media posts, but you can also repurpose your social media posts as blog posts.

When you do this, you create a true home base for ALL of your content that you can refer to for years to come, instead of it getting lost in the black hole of the internet that you’ll be lucky to find again.

If you don’t already have a blog and you’ve been pouring your heart and soul into your social media content, the good news is that you likely already have a LOT to work with 🎉

My suggestion as a blog writer is to slow down, take a step back, review what you’ve already created and repurpose your best pieces into long form blog posts that will truly become a massive content bank that is well organized, categorized, searchable and easily accessible for your audience.

Now I’ll admit, this will initially take a bit of time on your part, but think about the return that’s waiting for you:

Would you rather keep creating multiple social media posts per week that die off after a few days OR would you rather create one well-researched and value driven blog post that has the potential to serve you for 2+ years?

I’ll let you decide, but I think I know your answer 😏

If taking the time to do this makes you want to scream, that’s exactly what I’m here for and there’s a few different ways that we can work together to get your blog off the ground and running on an ongoing basis.

If you do already have a blog, my hope is that you are working smarter, not harder and that you’re using your blog content to drive the rest of what you do.

If you’re unsure if you’re using your blog to the best of its ability, my 1:1 blog strategy session is for you, where we’ll deep dive into your current blog and refine where needed while also creating a customized quarterly plan that you can use going forward.

4. Consistent Blog Posts Position You as an Expert in Your Industry Which Will Increase Trust & Credibility For Your Buyers

Once you have this content bank that a blog creates for you, you will start to position yourself as an expert in your industry and people will view you as a trusted source.

When this starts to happen, the chances of someone buying from you quickly will increase 📈 and I have a feeling that’s what you really want!

Think about the last time you visited someone’s website to buy a service or a product.

Maybe it was a training course for your business. Or maybe it was a haircare product that you saw someone talking about on TikTok. Or it could even be a booking at a resort for your next family vacation.

Chances are, before clicking “purchase,” you wanted to take a look around and get to know the person or the company that you were about to buy from.

(Not everyone is like this, but a large majority of people need to build a little more trust before buying!)

When you have a blog on your website that’s packed full of value driven content, it instantly displays credibility for you and screams that you know what you’re talking about, which subconsciously skyrockets the amount of trust that someone has for you or your business.

Now, like most things in life, consistency is key 🔑 when it comes to your blog content and while I would argue that consistency is a true necessity, the good news is that you get to decide what that consistency looks like.

In my professional opinion, I like to suggest that you commit to one blog post per week in order to really build your content bank and position yourself as an expert in your industry, but I understand that sometimes this commitment isn’t feasible.

As long as you map out a strategic plan that includes 3-5 content categories and develop a posting schedule that you do not stray from - such as 2x per week, 1x per month, etc. - you can trust that you’re making moves in the right direction.

If you’re unsure of how to map out a consistent blog plan for your business, in an upcoming post, I’ll be walking you through the exact process that I use for my client’s, so stay tuned for that!

5. Strategic Blog Content Helps You Become a Trusted Go-To Source in Your Community

Lastly, one of the biggest reasons that a blog is beneficial for your business is so you can become a go-to source in your community that people flock to for education and information in your industry.

Now, when you read that you might think, “what does that mean exactly?”

So let’s break it down ⬇️

Imagine that you own a beauty business and you offer in person services, such as spray tans, eyelash extensions, etc. while also selling beauty products online.

Not only do you want to be the go-to person for beauty services in your local area, but you also want to be the person that people think of regardless of where they live.

To achieve that, your blog content could include:

  • tips about how to maintain certain beauty services that apply to your clients AND to people all over the world

  • gift guides throughout the year based on holidays that feature products you sell

  • promotions for your own events or other local happenings in your area in order to stay connected to your community and keep your name in the ears of people around you

➡️ By creating strategic content like this, you naturally start to become a go-to person that people trust in your specific niche or industry.

Creating a blog plan with identified categories and topics is the first thing I dive into with clients, so together we are set up with strategic content ideas one quarter at a time.

Overall, I’m a firm believer that every business can benefit from having a blog on their website and it doesn’t have to be some complex thing that gives you a headache.

In fact, it can be THE very thing that streamlines your content in its entirety and keeps you confidently creating in a way that feels natural, valuable and exciting!

Happy blogging 👏🏼
