The Top 3 Questions I Get As a Blog Writer

As a blog writer I get a handful of the same questions quite often and because my response is usually the same, I thought it was probably time that I wrap up these Q & A’s into a blog post so that you can find the clarity you need in case you’re wondering these, too.

I think one of the reasons that people have so many questions when it comes to blogs is because blogs aren’t what everyone else is necessarily doing, so you aren’t flooded with information about them on the daily.

Instead, you’re more likely to find a trending TikTok tip, your next Reel idea or the newest Instagram strategy fairly easily.

I’m personally on a mission to change that and to help you confidently step into the long game content approach that so many are overlooking.

So to help you get started, let’s dive into the 3 most common questions that I receive as a blog writer. ⬇️

The 3 Most Common Questions That I Receive As A Blog Writer

#1: What website platform is the best for blogs?

If you’re just starting out in business, you’re likely in the process of deciding on which website platform you need to use and there’s a chance you want to make sure that it has the functionality for blogs.

And even though this IS an important decision, I don’t want this to be the thing that holds you back from taking action.

The simple truth is that most of the popular website platforms that you’ve probably heard of before can be a great fit for you.

Wix. Wordpress. Squarespace. ShowIt.

I know some people will fight me on Wix and say to stay away, but ANY platform can rank on Google. (if you don’t believe me, take it from my favorite SEO queens over at The Duo Collective).

The thing that matters most is choosing the platform that has the features and capabilities that YOU specifically need.

As a blog writer, I’ve worked on all of these platforms and the main difference between them all are the complexities.

If you’re newer to business and simply need a starter site, I’d recommend Wix or Squarespace. My first site was built on Wix and later I made the switch to Squarespace.

(If you’re in need of a Squarespace Website Designer, I know a girl!)

But hear me loud and clear, friend: Start NOW. Refine LATER.

I know you want the pretty website that you see others in your industry have - I do, too! But chances are they didn’t get there overnight.

So, simply weigh the pros and cons of your options and DECIDE.

#2: How do you come up with blog topics?

“I don’t know what to write about…” is one of the main reasons that people tell me they haven’t started a blog for their business yet.

And my response back to that is usually, “that’s simply not true!”

If you’re already posting on Instagram or creating content for other social media platforms, you DO know what to write about.

The only difference between the content that you’re already creating and the content you’ve YET to create for blogs is that blog content is longer form.

Chances are the content ideas for your blog are already right in front of you!

To come up with a list of blog topic ideas, I encourage you to use my Blog Brain Dump Method.

This is exactly what it sounds like - a brain dump of all of your possible ideas to get them out of your head and onto paper (or your computer screen).

I like to keep an ongoing brain dump of topic ideas in my Quarterly Blog Content Spreadsheet - if you want to keep all of your ideas organized, you can grab your own copy of this HERE!

To conduct the brain dump, ask yourself 4 main questions:

  1. What questions do people ask you?

  2. What problems do you help people solve?

  3. What do people come to you for?

  4. What are your core beliefs/values regarding your industry?

Whatever comes to mind, simply write it down. These topics don’t have to be pretty or polished right now!

If the ideas still aren’t flowing, take an audit of your existing content on the platform that you use the most.

What has hit for people in the past? AKA what content did your audience engage with or comment on? Jot down the topic and brainstorm how you can turn that into a longer form piece of content.

What questions do people frequently ask you? The blog that you’re currently reading was born out of taking inventory on that!

What problems do you help people solve? No matter what you do, you help people solve some sort of problem. And the interesting part is that they may not even know they’re experiencing the problem. Use your blog as an opportunity to speak to what you do, who you help and HOW you can help them.

Lastly, identify your core beliefs/values that relate to your industry and create longer form content on that. This type of content gives people a better understanding of what you stand for and allows them to connect with you in a deeper way.

When you start your brain dump, you’ll probably be surprised at how many content ideas come your way!

#3: How do you create consistent social media content?

You might read that and wonder why the heck someone would be asking me (a blog writer) about social media content.

And I know, it is shocking and I promise I’m not just making that up. 😂

Here’s some proof for ya:

Now, I don’t think I get this question because my social media content is off the charts incredible, but I think it has more to do with the fact that I am fairly consistent on social media, especially on Instagram specifically.

And I think that the consistency piece of social media is what people struggle with the most.

It’s like you have the ideas and the things that you want to do, but you’re so overwhelmed that you never actually do it.

Again, this isn't me making this up! This is exactly what someone told me recently:

If you can relate to this, you likely find yourself in an endless cycle of analysis paralysis and you can’t seem to find a way out.

What might surprise you and it sounds counterintuitive is that my secret to staying consistent on social media is creating consistent LONG FORM content!

I know what you might be thinking… “Natalie… I can’t even get the motivation to create a simple Instagram post, how the heck do you think I can create long form content like a blog post?!”

And I hear you! I really do.

But the thing about long form content, like blogs, is that you aren’t limited to 60 seconds and you aren’t confined to a character count.

You can freely give as much value as you want to concerning a topic and it often produces many more ideas throughout the process.

From there, you are able to pull small pieces to use on social media and give people a little taste (like a Costco sample) and then guide them to your blog post for the full meal (like a Golden Corral Buffet).

While I love social media and believe that it can be a great tool for your business, I also believe that it shouldn’t be the first place you start.

When you start with blog content FIRST, you're able to provide ultimate value for your audience in a place where the content will never expire which means that your audience can refer to it over and over again whenever they need to.

And beyond that, you’re never left wondering what you should post on other platforms. You have plenty of education and information to pull from to create your social media content in a way that feels easy and is WAY less time consuming.

Ultimately, your content starts to work FOR YOU instead of you working for your content. 🙌🏻

Overall, blogs aren’t as scary, confusing or time consuming as some people make them out to be. You can actually SAVE time by implementing blogs into your business and that’s exactly what I want for you!
