Why Co-Writing Sessions Are The Productivity Hack You Didn’t Know You Needed
As a creative business owner or service provider, you likely have no shortage of ideas. The hard part? Making time to actually sit down and bring them to life – especially when it comes to sitting down and writing for YOUR business.
As a business owner, it’s so easy to put off content creation for your business and constantly put client work first. And trust me – I really do get it.
It always feels like the top priority is client work and while obviously client work IS important (I mean, that’s the work that pays the bills, right?!), continuing to procrastinate creating content for your business can be detrimental in the long run.
After all, have you ever considered that you might not even have those clients in the first place if you didn’t prioritize creating content to market your OWN business at some point?!
But still, finding the time to consistently do it can be tough. Whether it’s drafting a blog post, updating your website copy, or finally tackling that email sequence, content writing is one of those tasks that often gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list.
Which is why when I created The Writer’s Room – my done-with-you blog writing membership – I knew there had to be a simple, low-pressure way to help people get focused and get words on the page EVERY single week!
I call it Co-writing Wednesday and these weekly co-writing sessions are truly one of the most powerful tools in The Writer’s Room. It might sound simple: log on, show up, and write for an hour alongside others. But the impact? Game-changing.
Here’s why. 👇🏼
5 Reasons Why Co-writing Sessions Work
Built-In Accountability (Without the Pressure)
You know that feeling when you’ve blocked off time to create content for your business, but you somehow end up scrolling Instagram or reorganizing your desktop folders instead? Same. That’s because creating content is hard, especially when it’s just you, your thoughts, and a blinking cursor.
That’s one of the biggest reasons that Co-writing Wednesday works. The co-writing session flips the script by offering you a scheduled, structured time to write alongside other people who are doing the same thing.
There’s something about being in a Zoom room with others quietly working that keeps you focused and held accountable. You don’t need to report your word count or read your work aloud. You just need to show up and write.
And I’ll be honest – sometimes I get in my head about talking about this accountability factor so much because it can sound so simple and basic. Like yeah The Writer’s Room might offer accountability, but so do a lot of other programs out there.
That might be true, but when I interviewed a few of my members recently, I asked what their favorite part of the membership was and you know what they ALL said? Accountability. ✨
So yes, it might sound simple and it might sound basic. But Co-writing Wednesday inside The Writer’s Room WORKS because it holds you accountable to show up and work on content for YOUR business consistently, every single week.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
One thing about being a business owner is that it can be superrrr lonely. Unless you have a team, it’s often just YOU doing everythingggg. And though social media can make it feel like you’re talking to people all day long, it’s really easy to look up and realize… I haven’t actually had ANY human interaction today.
When creating The Writer’s Room, my goal was to create a true community of other business owners and service providers who simply get it. And that’s what makes Co-writing Wednesday so fun!
Every single person showing up for a co-writing session knows what it’s like to not want to create content. Or they know what it’s like when you’re feeling “blah” in your writing. Or they know what it’s like to feel like your content just isn’t hitting with your audience.
They also know what it’s like when you’re feeling the opposite – on fire and insanely motivated in your business and you’re excited to keep creating.
And the cool part is that the people who get it are showing up with you every single week to work on very similar things for their business. Whether they’re writing a newsletter, outlining a blog post, or working on their website, everyone is in the same boat!
This sense of shared purpose can be incredibly motivating knowing you’re not alone with your blinking cursor anymore. You’re part of a room full of people also putting in the work.
Consistent Structure
Recently on Threads, I saw someone ask for recommendations for people who host actually productive co-working sessions inside their membership or program. (Of course I jumped in and tooted my own horn!)
In the responses to the Thread, someone mentioned how anytime they join a co-working session it somehow becomes a networking session and it ends up being not-so-productive.
Which made me realize that the structure I’ve created for Co-writing Wednesday is one of the reasons it works SO well.
While I love giving my members the opportunity to chat and connect with each other, our co-writing sessions are not the time or place for that. Co-writing sessions are for… WRITING.
(We have quarterly community calls for the yap sessions and you can always chat with other members in our membership Slack channel!)
Each week in The Writer’s Room, members can show up to our co-writing calls and know exactly what they’re going to get.
I’ll start the Zoom, welcome them and ask them to share what they’re working on for that day, then we all mute ourselves and go our separate ways to write for a focused hour. (And of course I share a playlist of the day in case they want some writing tunes – here’s one of my current faves!)
At the end, we check back in to celebrate what we got done.
This structure offers just enough support to help you start strong, stay on track, and finish with a win without feeling rigid or overwhelming.
Only One Hour Per Week
One of the biggest mindset shifts my members experience after joining The Writer’s Room is realizing that blogging (or really any kind of content writing) doesn’t have to take hours and hours.
A single, focused hour per week can lead to published blog posts, better messaging, more clarity, and increased visibility.
It’s easy to get stuck in the belief that you need to set aside an entire day to write content that will make a big impact in your business, but Co-writing Wednesday proves that a small, consistent habit can be more effective than the occasional all-day sprint.
And the best part is that you don’t have to choose when to time block the hour yourself. It’s decided for YOU and it’s already on your calendar so truly all you have to do is show up ready to write.
Support That Doesn’t Stop When the Timer Does
Lastly, something that seamlessly piggy backs off of Co-writing Wednesday is another insanely valuable part of The Writer’s Room: Feedback Fridays.
Every single week, members have the opportunity to submit their blog posts, newsletters, or other content for review and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback so they feel confident pressing publish!
This post-session support means you’re not just writing into a void – you’re writing with the reassurance that someone (hiii, it’s me!) will help you refine your message, clarify your voice, and make sure your content connects so that your audience takes the action you want them to take.
It turns a productive hour into real momentum that you feel good about!
So, that’s why co-writing sessions inside The Writer’s Room WORKS. 👏🏼
It’s not just a fluffy perk that you get when you join the membership – it’s something that members consistently show up for so they can write content for THEIR business every single week and feel insanely confident publishing it.
